Fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, dull skin, and acne or acne scarring all work at taking away our youthful-looking skin with every day that passes. Even the environment fights against us with the sun’s damaging rays and pollution attacking our skin. Chemical peels are an excellent way to combat these common skin problems, but how often can you safely get a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers and allowing smoother, younger-looking skin to grow back in its place. In a chemical peel, a mild acid, such as alpha hydroxyl acid, causes a “controlled injury” to the surface skin cells so that they will peel off and new cells will replace the old cells. Skin cells that were damaged by the sun, discolored, or part of a scar are gradually peeled away revealing a more beautiful, even complexion.
Chemical peels are performed by highly trained staff who will discuss your individual needs with you during a consultation, The process then takes about an hour. Full results will be seen in 2 to 3 weeks, but most patients leave already feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and noticing a healthy glow to their skin. Some patients may experience redness and slightly swollen skin, but this subsides in 1 to 2 weeks. During this two-week time frame, dead skin cells will continue flaking off leaving bright and beautiful new skin!

How Often Can I Get a Chemical Peel?
The frequent use of acid peels may damage your skin if used too often. The frequency with which you can get chemical peels depends on the condition of your skin (normal to oily skin can be treated with peels more often than dry or combination skin), the problems you are treating, and the strength of the peel you are using.
- Light Chemical Peel removes the outer layer of the skin (epidermis). The light peel can be repeated every 2 to 5 weeks.
- Medium Chemical Peel removes skin cells from the epidermis and from the upper portion of the dermis (middle layer of skin). This medium peel can be repeated every 3 to 9 months to maintain results.
- Deep Chemical Peels remove skin cells from the epidermis and from the mid to lower layers of your dermis. This is used for deeper wrinkles, scars, or even precancerous growths. This type of peel can only be performed once.
