What are the Benefits of PRP?

You may not yet have heard about platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP), but it is quickly growing in popularity and has many potential benefits. PRP involves taking a sample of your blood and then separating the part that contains platelets (platelet-rich plasma). This plasma is then injected into areas of concern like the hairline to stimulate hair growth or your face, to reduce the signs of aging.

How Does PRP Work?

Platelets contain proteins called growth factors that stimulate collagen production and promote cell regeneration. These proteins work to encourage the regrowth of healthy hair. When used for facial rejuvenation, they also stimulate the skin and underlying tissue, promoting a more youthful appearance. PRP therapy provides an abundance of nutrients for cells to grow and stay healthy, helping your body regenerate faster so you can achieve better results from cosmetic procedures

Here at Skinatomy Dr. Kevin Sliwowicz and his team of professional staff provide two forms of platelet-rich plasma therapy, the Vampire Facelift to improve the appearance of facial skin, and PRP Hair Restoration to trigger hair regrowth.

Am I a Good Candidate for Treatment?

An ideal candidate for PRP therapy is looking to rejuvenate their skin and promote a more youthful appearance with a non-invasive procedure. You are also a good candidate if you have noticed moderate hair loss and are seeking a non-surgical solution to stimulate hair regrowth.

What is the PRP Procedure Like?

For the Vampire Facelift, your Skinatomy clinician will extract a small amount of your blood and then process it to extract PRP. Before your treatment, they will apply a topical anesthetic (like lidocaine) to the treatment area. You will then receive microneedling treatment. During this procedure, your clinician applies a handheld device to your skin. The very fine needles in the device create micro-injuries in your skin. This process encourages your skin to heal by producing more collagen and elastin. The platelet-rich plasma will be applied to your face during and after microneedling, further speeding up the healing process.

For the purpose of hair restoration, the platelet-rich plasma is combined with growth-activating serums. Your clinician will inject these into your scalp in the areas where hair has been lost. Typically, you will receive a monthly injection for three subsequent months. After this, you will have a follow-up treatment every three or four months for the next two years.

What Results Can I Expect From PRP Therapy?

You will notice softer, smoother skin and fewer wrinkles after just one treatment. The results will continue to improve with each additional session. Platelet-rich plasma therapy can also improve the appearance of acne scars after multiple treatments.

Platelet-rich plasma hair restoration is especially effective when used for thinning areas, receding hairlines, and patches of baldness. Once the PRP has been injected into your scalp, you may begin to notice that new hairs are growing in those previously affected areas. This can take several weeks to months depending on the severity of your hair loss.
